Do You Want to Know Who the Kenites Really Were?

Land of Midian, where the Kenites dwelt
Land of Midian, where the Kenites dwelt

“Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.” Judges 4:11

The Shepherd’s Chapel is a doomsday cult. Let that register. One of Murray’s claims to exegetical infamy is his further development of the hateful serpent seed doctrine where xenophobia runs rampant. When taken to its logical conclusion it portends a type of apocalyptic religious helter-skelter.

As far as I know, he is the first person to force the connection between Satan’s literal offspring, Cain and tribe referred to in the Old Testament as the Kenites.

As we shall see, this connection is a fraudulent one and when it collapses the façade falls off this doctrine of devils.

Murray tells us that Jethro was no Kenite – but the text tells us otherwise. Murray can’t concede this because it would have Moses marrying a literal Kenite, as Moses married Jethro’s daughter. Murray considers this sect anathema but the scripture actually speaks highly of them. It is even possible that the modern day Druze people are descendants of the ancient Kenites.

To begin with, let’s take the first text I quoted from Judges 4:11 in its simplicity:

“Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.” Judges 4:11

Hobab is the son of Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses. The sons of Hobab are called KENITES! Very simple. Kenites include and are not limited to the sons of Hobab. It is possible Kenite is another word for Midianite.

It is much more probable they were a sect of the Midianite people. They were a tribe and/or guild of “smiths”, they worked with metals and probably made weapons too meaning they were responsible for lot of bloodshed…

How do we know they were smiths?

In Aramaic the name for the Kenites was “Qeni”, meaning smiths. This was what they referred to themselves as. Moses it seems in a play on words in the Hebrew called them once in Numbers “Qayin” meaning “Cain” and elsewhere “Qeyniy” meaning apparently “sons of Cain”. For Murray to uphold his Kenite/Serpent Seed doctrine he has to prove that they are literal genetic descendants.

But Qeyniy doesn’t have to mean a literal descendant of Cain.

Why did he do this? Did they literally descend from Cain? There was a good reason for why Moses likened the Kenites to the sons of Cain.

We find in Genesis chapter four that one Cain’s descendants, Tubalcain, invented working with iron. He was a “smith”…

And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah. – Genesis 4:22

Tubalcain probably played a big role in God judging the antediluvian world as we can only assume that iron and bronze weapons were made available because of his innovation.

Maybe this is why Moses called them Qeyniy and the fact that their Aramaic name was Qeni.

After the flood it would have been widely known who the patriarch was that invented ironwork. Jethro’s family and his sons were part of a larger tribe that included many “smith’s” and Moses identified them with Tubal-Cain (and Cain) in the Hebrew. There is a define affinity between the Qayin and Qeyniy – Moses meant may have even meant to call them “sons of Cain”.

TAKE NOTE because this where the Chapel goes flying of the rails. Just because there is similarity of Cain’s name and the Kenites, this does NOT mean that they were direct descendants of Cain. They were killed in the flood… CAIN’S descendants ALL perished!

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. – Genesis 6:7

I am offering a good scriptural explanation for the reason why we find similarities in Cain’s name and the tribe of Kenites. It would seem natural that a tribe of smiths would find identification with the originator of the craft.

Here’s another text to consider:

From the KJV

And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people. – Judges 1:16

From the NLT

When the tribe of Judah left Jericho—the city of palms—the Kenites, who were descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, traveled with them into the wilderness of Judah. They settled among the people there, near the town of Arad in the Negev. – Judges 1:16

The Kenites are the “smith’s” who are identified with Cain by Moses because Tubal-Cain invented metallurgy… or because of some other similarity with Cain. Many of the Kenites were descendants of Jethro the Midianite. Jethro himself also being a Kenite.

But let’s delve deeper to how Murray does his Hebrew semantic magic with the aid of the Strong’s… he will cherry pick portions of Strong’s entries to get the result he needs, he does it time and again…

this particular word has two different meanings
this particular word has two different meanings

In the English language a word typically can many have different meanings. For instance, “POT” (and no I don’t smoke it). POT can mean many different things. When I say the word “POT” what am I referring to? The meaning of it’s is context dependent.

I say, “A chicken in the pot for all my readers…” – you know instantly what kind of pot I mean. You don’t somehow try to read into my words that I’m talking about pot that you smoke unless you are a dopehead.

So here in the Hebrew text we have a word, “Qayin” with two meanings. It’s first usage in Hebrew is in reference to CAIN. Later on it is used one time to refer to a tribe – the same Hebrew word is used…

Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive. – Numbers 24:22

In this passage “Kenite” is Strong’s 7014, “Qayin” – but here it is 100% obvious it is not referring to CAIN. The meaning of the word is context dependent – it is referring to the tribe.

The word “Kenite” is used 13 more times in the OT as Qeyniy. Although there is an affinity between Qeyniy and Qayin it in no way proves that this is a tribe that literally descended from CAIN. Yet Murray forces an invalid association between texts and word meanings as he does so often.

Murray will often say that Jethro was a Midianite who lived in the land of the Kenites and that Jethro was not a Kenite in spite of what the text says. The reality is that the Kenites were Midianites who lived in the land of Midian and Jethro himself was a prominent Kenite.

THE KENITES WERE A SECT OF THE MIDIANITES and NOT descendants of Cain. Jethro himself was a Kenite in spite of what Murray says.

Do you want me to precede further in decimating this doctrine? I promise you for Christ’s sake if I do anything I will continue to tear this system of deception to pieces to the glory of God.

When you begin to see how Murray has bent and distorted the true meaning of the text and how he convinced multitudes to follow his teaching even after his death you will stand in awe of the religious deceit of man and then despair of it.
